"Welcome in Flanders, Belgium.
How can I help you?"
Hello, my name is Yves
I started doing guided tours in Ghent in 2014 as a volunteer. Mostly because most companies didn't want me for a student job, and no surprise: I was clumsy and I was shy. Would you want to be served by a butcher boy bleeding from his thumbs and stuttering barely understandable apologies?
So I started studying history at the university of Ghent; armed with the knowledge they offered there, I took to the streets. But soon it became clear that travellers weren't waiting for long lists of dates and names.
And so I changed.
Instead of talking, I decided to make room to listen. Travelers, tourists, visitors, ... They shared with me tales from their own countries and earlier journeys. They ignited in me the passion for travelling, and more importantly:
they helped me to see what an adventurer needs.
And so Beardbarian began: with a new perspective I rediscovered my own country. Trying to see it with the fresh eyes of someone who's never been here before. Visiting breweries, towns, castles and tasting the delicacies that anyone should try when they pass through this part of Europe. Whenever I can, I take my two sons and wife for trips to learn more things - things I can share with you!
I don't just talk tours - I try to live them.
Allow me to help you see the marvels of Belgium, while you help me make this world a more interesting place.
Welcome to the Beardbarian horde!
Meet my crew
As much as I'd like to meet each enthousiastic traveler that wishes to explore our country, there's only one Beardbarian. But if you share your passion without shame - you're bound to meet people with the same dreams and passions!
So to make sure you get the best experience, I recruited and trained these passionate souls. They share the drive that is essential to this company and are happy to share their stories with you. Meet the Beardbarian army!
Beardbarian's friends
On my way to become the Beardbarian, I've often worked with other companies - where I met other guides. They developed their knowledge and skills largely through their own path - and they'll jump aboard once in a while! So don't be surprised if you meet one of these colourful crewmates on your tour.
