As our Beardbarians take care of your thirst (for stories and drinks), the martial arts department is curated by master Joris Jacobs.
When history gets physical, there’s no better person to guide the experience than Joris Jacobs - the swordmaster behind Ludus Corvus and head instructor at Arte Mortiferum, one of Belgium’s premier Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) clubs.
Joris doesn’t just teach swordplay, he lives it.
For well over a decade he has trained in multiple martial traditions, blending scholarly study of historical combat treatises with modern movement science, grappling, and weapon work.
Under his leadership, Arte Mortiferum has become a respected name in the international HEMA community, producing fighters who compete at events such as Mortslag and Goats of War, where Joris himself often ranks among the top competitors in disciplines like long sword and rapier & dagger.
